Depending on your heating oil tank's setup you might need an adapter for your Smart Oil Gauge. While not all Smart Oil Gauge setups need an adapter, some might and it's important to know which adapters you might need for your tank.
The first thing that should be mentioned is that there are two different styles to the Smart Oil Gauge. There is the standard model and the duo model. Each of these models has a different adapter due to their different sensor designs. When purchasing an adapter for your Smart Oil Gauge, make sure that you purchase the adapter for the correct model. For the Duo, the SKU will end with "DUO" which will indicate that the adapter is for the Smart Oil Gauge Duo.
Make sure you accurately measure your tank's fitting diameter because that will help you determine what size adapter you might need. You can measure your tank fitting with some measuring tape or a ruler. Most fittings on today's oil tanks are 2" NPT fittings that usually measure around 2.375" on a ruler. The Smart Oil Gauge does use a 2" NPT fitting that will get tighter the farther you screw it into the tank. This allows them to create a seal to ensure that the gauge is installed securely on the tank. So if your fitting is a 2” NPT, then an adapter won’t be needed!
You shouldn't have to worry about measuring your fitting if you have a Roth tank. All Roth tank fittings are the same size, so trying to measure your fitting on a Roth tank won't be necessary. The adapter for Roth tanks will be able to work on all sizes of Roth that the Smart Oil Gauge is compatible with. That being said, the Smart Oil Gauge is not compatible with 1500L tanks because of its interior support baffle. This baffle is positioned in the middle of the tank, so the gauge’s ultrasonic sensor won’t be able to beyond that.
In the above chart, you'll see the requirements for each of our available adapters for non-Roth tanks. Any fitting diameter that ranges from 1.9"-2.1" can use a 1,5" NPT adapter (CCF-905). While anything that ranges between 1.4"-1.6" must use a 1.25" NPT adapter. However, the Smart Oil Gauge Duo is not compatible with 1.25 NPT" fittings. This is due to the size of the Duo's sensor being too large for the small size of the 1.25" NPT fitting. Once you've gotten the proper adapter for your Smart Oil Gauge, you'll be able to get accurate readings of the level in your tank and know exactly how much you have!
